In 1995 David became a Founder of a major Melbourne Architectural Practice, specialising in health and institutional projects. While undertaking this role, David was involved in various projects in remote area indigenous communities, along with writers, scientists and other artists, exploring the many different and layered expressions of landscape. This led to his association and philanthropic support of many land conservation groups and the environmental art initiative, Climarte beginning in 2014.

In his own art practice David approaches landscape as an immersive experience - positing that there is no greater pleasure than being in landscape and experiencing one’s body as part of that landscape.

Utilising on-site observation, en-plein air studies and photography, David develops his work in the studio, embedding the final paintings  with the memories and emotions he experiences associated with time and place.

David has appreciated the mentorship and tutelage for many years in painting from artists Kez Hughes and the late Mandy Martin (d.2021)
